I recently posted a description of a lockup problem I'm having in XP with my NVidia GeForce MX200 card, when I use NVidia drivers.
Someone sent me this link (http://www.windowsxpatoz.com/cgi-bin/hardware/index.cgi?answer=1036287473&id=1036286792), which gave me the following suggestion:
__________________________________
Nvidea loop\lockup fixIf your using XP and a nvidea card
and experiance the well known lockup bug when trying to play games ect ectthe following should fix the problem,
1. go to display properties\advanced\troubleshoot tab\then un check enable write combining
2.go to start\run\regedit\the to the following key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
create the following dword > LargePageMinimum set it to
ffffffff in the hexadecimal which will = 4294967295 in value -- reboot3.try setting the agp apeture to 128MB loacated in bios settings
__________________________________My questions are:
I am not familiar with the source of these suggestions. Does this seem legit?I also do not understand step 2: "create the following dword > LargePageMinimum set it to
ffffffff in the hexadecimal which will = 4294967295 in value -- reboot "Well, I understand the reboot part [g], and I can get to that registry entry no problem, but what is the "dword" stuff. Can someone give me more detail here? I don't want to screw up my registry.
Thanks,
TB

First make a backup of your registry before attempting any changes.
Start/run/regedit Click on Edit/new/Dword value Hit Enter. DWord created is temporarily named new value #1. Change this name to LargePageMinimum. Hit enter one more time. Double click on LargePageMinimum and change the value to 4294967295 decimal. hit enter and reboot.
DON'T FORGET THE INITIAL BACKUP. If something goes wrong you will need this file.
