A post last year covered this problem where the message occured during XP boot up even though the primary disk is OK because another drive is also shown as 'active'.I have a similar problem where the first SATA disk and the first PATA disk are shown as active in Partition Magic.I was still able to boot up XP until I added my 3rd SATA drive but then got the "NTLR is missing" message.I can only see how to make the partition active but not how to make it inactive using partition magic. Can anyone you tell me how to use Partition Magic to make a partition inactive again (I'm using version 8.0)

Not enough info.
Did you install XP from scratch on the third drive?
Are you trying to boot that drive?
Did you copy a partition with an existing XP installation on it to the new drive and are trying to boot that drive?
Do you have more than one XP or Win 2000 installation on this computer? You can make a partition invisible to XP by making it a Hidden partition in Partition Magic, but it may not help to cure your NTLDR is missing problem.
XP can handle multiple Windows installations, and any of them can be Active - it just lets one be Active at a time.
By the way, if you're using the Windows version of Partition Magic 8.0 there's lots of bugs in it - there is a free upgrade for it on the Symantec site, but it's huge. You can also use the Dos version of it and run that even if Windows isn't working - the utility to make the bootable two floppy set is on the CD - run Setup in the \Rescue Me folder, on another computer if you need to.
The NTLDR is missing problem is easy to fix if there's nothing else wrong with the Windows installation(s), especially if you have only one Windows installation on the computer.
