As long as C: remains the boot drive in the system BIOS, you can't.
If you are removing the C: HDD from the system and making D: the 1st HDD in the system, you would run the Recovery Console Repair option and run: fixmbr-to put an MBR down fixboot-to put down the boot sector and boot files bootcfg-to fix the BOOT.INI file to point to the correct disk to boot.
Post back your results here. I'd like to know if XP will still bootup, as, I assume, it was installed on D:. I know XP will boot as C: if it was installed on C:, no matter which position the physical drive is in.
