My friends computer upon startup comes up with this error, NTLDR is missing Press any key to restart. I searched the net for remedies to this prob and tried them to no avail. I ended up deleting the partition, repartitioning the harddrive and did a clean install of WinXp. When I started up after doing this it went fine. Shut down and about 5 mins later started up again and went fine. Just before I dropped it off to her I started it up to make sure it was going and all well. She started it up this morning and it went. The 2nd time she started it up nothing but beeps and the blasted NTLDR is missing error was back. Anyone have any other suggestions to try. Thanks in advance

Is this a dual-boot system?

Well, there could be a couple of things contributing to this. The first thing I would do is run chkdsk on the drive itself, because this is a sign of a failing drive.

Another thing I have saw cause this is the CPU and RAM voltage settings. You didn't specify which processor you had, so I will give you an example:

An AMD Athlon processor which says it runs at 1.2 GHz, but in order to get 1.2 instead of 1 GHz you would have to set the clock speed to 133 MHz, instead of 100.. thus overclocking. Some systems will not run like this, you will get the error "NTLDR is missing or corrupt, please install a new copy".

So, I guess what I am trying to say is to go into the BIOS and look to see if you have an option for voltage settings. If so change the setting from 133 to 100 and see if this solves your problem. Another thing to try is throw another stick of RAM in the system to rule out the problem of bad memory.

Good Luck..

The last time I got a missing NTLDR message, I had forgot to remove a floppy disk on boot up.

No floppy in the drive as there isn't one. One of the first things I checked. Sorry that I haven't let you know what processor it is as I don't know. Shes dropping the system off this morning so will know then. Thanks for your help so far.
