Hi all,
Okay, I've got this rather annoying problem that while trying to find some info on the net I realise that I'm not the only one and that this seems like a bit of a hard problem to solve so I'll give you every piece of info I can.
I recently got a new Seagate 120Gb Hdd, planning to put XP Pro on it. I already have a hdd (or course) with XP Pro on it and I figured the easiest way to put the OS on the new hdd would be just to install the second hdd and run the XP disc from the original hdd and when it comes round to choosing which drive i want to install it on just pick the new hdd and everything should be sweet. Since that has happened I had removed the original hdd and tried to boot it up and found it would search for a boot disk on start up (which I figure now was the original hdd) so I reformatted and partitioned the new hdd to find now that whenever it tries to load up (ie boot from the hdd) i get a message saying 'NTLDR is missing, ctrl+alt+del to restart' and nothing I do gets rid of it. there are solution to this problem out there but what makes things worse is that if i enter a boot disk or msdos disk to get the prompt it will never register the hdd (ie. c:/), saying that the drive doesn't exist and i'm slowly going insane.
If i plug the two drives together again it still doesn't work, can't try a lot of solutions becuase of the lack of c:/ and basically someone in my family will hospitalised due to my fits of intense rage (Oh the joys of modern technology).
Please, anyone, throw me a bone here.....tez

NTLDR is the first file the BIOS looks for coming out of the POST. That error means you're missing an operating system.

NTLDR is missing.

Also .
Windows doesn't deal with disks over 64gb, without this patch

This patch allows fdisk to "see" larger drives.

ok, Funny this came up.
I just went to install XP on my new :bare: hard drive. I used the boot up disks 1-6.
It formatted.. then said missing .sif file or it's corrupted.
This is an 80 gb hard drive.. it then restarted stating ntldr is missing.

Well, it's a start but not quite donuts.
Managed to get rid of the missing NTLDR thing....HOORAY!!! All I did (might work you too Johan) is used that FDISK thing and partitioned and formatted my hard drive, it did only register something like 48Gb for a 120Gb hdd though, will try out that patch and see what happens. I was using the Seagate Disc Wizard program to partition my hdd which apparently wasn't doing much! But regardless now I have a C drive again!! The only thing now is that when I try to install XP it won't let me cause it can't find the End User Licence Agreement thing (EULA) but I think that actaully has something to do with the incorrect hdd size so I'll try out the fdisk thing again and see how it goes.........tez

So far i got it to install xp. Just went through and deleted old partition and booted from the cd-rom as the second boot up after floppy. Hopefully I wont run into that License Agreement thing. :(
