'NTLDR is missing' at boot-up after replacement of motherboard.
I have tried to insert Win XP CDROM and reboot. Then I select 'E' for repair of existing XP installation. Installation program prompts back that no valid harddisc is to be located.
The HDD device is registered and found as primary master device by the BIOS.Is it not possible after motherboard replacement to reuse old XP partition or do I have to format the HDD and reinstall XP ?

I sent you an XP boot disc that should get you loaded, but to fix the problem you need to boot with your XP CD and choose repair. Then type in FIXBOOT, then FIXMBR, that should reload your bios which you lost when you changed motherboards.

Thanks for very fast reply.
Should I copy the NTDETECT.exe and NTLDR from the bootdisc
onto the C: partition ?
Where do I find the FIXBOOT and FIXMBR ? And should be executed in MD-DOS session ?

Chuck, You always do that. Brown1955 was helping Lars through this forum and through email until you butted in with a URL that has nothing to do with the problem Lars is having. HE IS NOT UPGRADING HIS O/S !!
It was a sad day on this forum when you learned how to cut and paste.
If someone responds with a good solution,YOU DON"T NEED TO RESPOND AT ALL !!

Well for one thing Lars didnt state weather or not he did an exact replacement or upgraded his motherboard. If he did an exact replacment he is getting good advise. If he upgraded to a different motherboard he is going to have to format and reinstall XP That simple. If they are Emailing then they should leave it off of the forum.
SOMEPEOPLE ARE SO TOUCHY FEELY I AM GONA PUUCKE
Another thing is he could have done a search as this has only been covered every other day here

Thanks for very quick and fast replies. This Forum is very great !!
I have upgraded from an ASUS to a Microstar motherboard. I presume that is what you characterize as a different MB upgrade ....

HELP !!
I have now tried to format the C: disk (Samsung 80GB) containing the XP installation. The format process seemed to work OK but the writing of the file allocation table resulted in a serious/critical error after about 20 %. After that no contact with the HDD was possible from BIOS.
My Primary Slave disk (Fujitzu 20GB) has always been OK and still is.Is there a way to repair this file allocation table myself or do I have to reclaim another HDD from my distributor ? (After all the HDD was slightly less than a year old so this shouldn't be a problem)

Ron, You know as well as everyone here knows that Chuck always does that. You must of PUUCKED all over your moniter so you couldn't read Chucks responce. It has nothing to do with upgrading a motherboard. You belong in the same boat with Chuck and everyone here knows that too.
