I'm trying to figure out why the properties of my hard drive say that i have only ~490MB left of a 9.55GB disk, when, if I select all the folder in the root and press properties, it shows them as only taking up 6.8GB, which should leave me with a couple of gigs. The only thing I can think of is the swap file, but I can't see this in the route -- does XP hide it all together? Even so, a 2GIG swap-file seems a bit much. Any suggestions?! (yes, the recycle bin is empty...)

Thanks in advance

System restore is probably responsible for a fair chunk of that space as well.

In Control Panel > Folder Options > View,
select "Show hidden files and folders", and unselect "Hide protected operating system files". This should help you find some of the missing space.

Hey Matt
Want to have a little fun? Go to this site
http://www.jam-software.com/treesize.shtml
and download Tree Size Pro.
Once installed you can right click on my computer and select Tree Size Pro. It's a cool little program that will givr you a visual of each of your drives and what's on each.
