Hello i have a 120 GB external drive (usb)
which is ntfs and i want to change it to fat32
Tried right click and drop down under file system but it only says ntfs
Any other way to do this

ps please note before anyone says ntfs is better i have a valid reason for wanting fat32 (ie bought a new standalone dvd player and it has a usb port so im going to play short clips\movies etc off the external drive through to my telly without having to burn them to DVD ) well im going to try it anyway and i would think i would need fat32 drive for this..

Go here and get GParted, this will do the ntfs to fat32 format for you. I used it to convert a 40 gig hardrive back to fat32, for the same reasons as you want.

I'd try the dvd player before I did anything.
Most of the players use a type of embedded OS such as linux that may have read abiltiy already. Not sure it was made for that. I have TV that can read usb flash drives. Dunno.

If your computer management console MMC doesn't support it then there are plenty of apps out there that can support up to 2T formatting in fat32.

More likely would be that it would read ext2 or fat before it would read fat32 I'd think but you never know.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

My external dvd player with a usb port plays divx, xvid files off of the 40 gig hardrive which I reformatted as fat32.

It also plays the same movie formats off of my 2gig flash drive which is fat32 as well.

I'm surprised it's NTFS...did you format it? Most external HDD come preformatted as FAT32.

Get the HDD manufacturer's software & use it to format the drive.

Thanks for all the replys im going to wait till the dvd player arrives and see if it works without doing anything and then take it from there as jefro has already said.
But im more confident that what im going to do will work having read soupnasty,s replys
Im not going to link because it will be seen as advertising but its a great dvd player with built in freeview and a usb port..
