When you format a drive in XP using the NTFS format. Is that the same as NTFS in 2000pro? If not, what is the difference?
NTFS 1.0 or 3.1 = NT 3.1 NTFS 1.1 or 4.0 = NT 4.0 NTFS 5.0 = Win2000 and Win XP

thanks, I was just wondering cause I had someone tell me that there was a difference. He said that when he formatted the drive in XP the 2000 machince couldn't see it, and it was formatted as NTFS.

if you are dual booting with 9x or ME then any NTFS partitions cannot be viewed while you are running 9x or ME in the FAT partition. XP and 2k can both read ntfs partitions or FAT/FAT32, the older windows versions only read FAT/FAT32 (except NT which reads older NTFS versions but can read NTFS v.5 used in XP/2000 if running service pack 6a or higher)
