I have a compaq 8000 cto desktop with a 40G hard drive. It was partitioned from the factory with a 7+ gig (D) drive, and a 29+ gig (c) drive. I have win xp installed from the factory, AMD 1.47 processor. Does anyone know why (D) drive isn't also NTFS?? There is not a problem, I'm just attempting to educate myself.

There really is no difference between NTFS and FAT32 other than NTFS is more secure and FAT32 is usable for older OS. If you want to change to NTFS simply format it as NTFS. This will erase all data on it, though.

Hi, or instead of formating and saying good-bye to any wanted files, use the convert command at the command prompt:

convert D: /fs:ntfs
