Comment: using dial-up v.92 modem to connect to internet at 53.2 and 54.6k. for past month, web page download speed varies widely. will slow, stall or stop for some sites, then work great/fast for others. i detect this by putting mouse over connection icon to check bytes sent and received. i have norton anti-virus and zone alarm firewall running. my isp, copper.net, is unable to help. they blame my modem or 'network stacking'. what might cause this wide range of speed? thank you for your time.

Reply: (edit)Try hanging out at the same website for a while and see if your speeds vary as much anymore. If they still do, contact your OEM for updated modem drivers, and verify Zone Alarm isn't blocking some legitimate IP addresses.
