Hi, I am having a windows explorer problem. Every once in a while if im accessing things like, control panel, my computer, my documents, (and sometimes even Internet explorer) etc. i get this error that pops up. Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. Then i press ok, my task bar at the bottom of the screen disapears for a minute, reappears and then either everything is normal, or the computer starts running hella slow. Like a 300 mhz machine with 64 megs of ram. In the error details It says Mod Name: ntdll.dll and Appname: explorer.exe. I have tried doing a system restore and a clean install of my OS, Still have the same error. I've tried the Run>Regsrv32 ntdll.dll fix and it says ntdll.dll was loaded, but the dllregisterserver entry point was not found, this file can not be registered. I also ran run > cmd sfc /scannow, still having the problem. I am running norton antivirus and firewall. I updated my virus definitions and it says im virus free. I even ran an online virus scan to double check it. I am running on pentium4 1.8Ghz, 768 2100 ddr ram, 30 gb HD., Windows Xp Home With All Avail Updates. Everything normally works fine, just comes on a few times a day. I can't seem to shake this thing. Thanx for any help that u can give me,,,peace (stephen12111@hotmail.com)

stephen: went thru several forums about this problem and answers were elusive; one fellow said he fixed it and neglected to share the knowledge...very frustrating.
did find a few thoughts;
1, your registration error indicates that: "Dllname is not a .dll or .ocx file", so a .dll file is apparently not a .dll file in this case, perhaps because it rates as a kernel file?
2. one post claimed that the error is caused by:
a faulty download file (including updates),
and/or
an application (virus scanner? webcam?) running in the background preventing proper installation, or conflicts with a hardware device.
perhaps same could be said for background programs; try slimming down your startup folder as found in Run: msconfig
let us know if you find the cause...

Yeah dude I've had the same problem to.
I uninstalled AntiVir and I stopped getting the ntdll.dll explorer crashes.
BUT
I still get the toolbar crashing on me.
I am going to formate my computer and only install microsofts update for my video driver and mother board chipset.
Not still any other programs and see how it goes.
Maybe u should do the same cause I never had this problem until I started updating my drivers and antivirus software.

P.S.
Yeah when I wrote about updating my antivirus what I meant was that AntiVir not only updates the virus signatures but also the engine/program every so often. That is where I think the problem occured.
I believe that this ntdll.dll error is caused by a software compatability issue.
Therefore I would suggest doing what I stated in my last post.
Also if you find out that the problem is being caused by Norton then try AVG it's free and good antivirus software.
