NOVELL- uninstalled, now big probs

Danyak February 13, 2009 at 17:52:51
Specs: Windows XP Professional
i've just uninstalled novel from my computer, using add/remove programs from the control panel. the actual name of the software i uninstalled was "ZENWorks" from Novell.

So i restart, and all occurs as usual- then i get to the usual "Windows is starting up' message

but after that- NOTHING! Just a blank black screen with the cursor (which moves)-but nothing happens. No login screen as occurred previously (with Novell).

So can anyone PLEASE help me to get my computer working. I would just reinstall novell zenworks, but i cant get into XP to do that.

Help much appreciated

Did you try to get into the start page by pressing F8 during start-up...then slect safe mode and see if you can get back in that way. If so then do a system restore.

Thanks for the reply, but when i press F8 during start up, nothing seems to happen. I can press F2 to enter Setup ('PhoenixBios Setup Utility') but i cant see much that'll help me there :(

Boot up and keep tapping the F8 key as opposed to holding it down. That should take you into Safe Mode. Good Luck.

OMG it WORKED! (took until the fifth time, but F8 worked wonders). THANK-YOU so much for your help. I'll still have to live with Novell, but I now have all my files back (and from now on im backing up everything important)

Good Idea. You could back everything up and then do a clean install to get rid of Novel. Good Luck..............
