Nothing when you hit the Power button

June 14, 2009 at 18:22:51
Specs: Windows XP Home, celeron m 512 mb ram
My sis's Dell Inspiron 1150 does nothing
when you hit the power button. The power
light comes on, and you can hear a fan start.
There are no hard drive sounds, and the hard
drive light does not blink at all. There is
NOTHING on the monitor. I am going to try to
plug in an external monitor...but will that do
anything without seeing how to hook it up?

I am thinking it's either the screen or the
HDD....any ideas as to where to start?

OMG don't judge me!

Even if the laptop harddrive was removed the POST screen should show something....
The LED for the hard drive says a lot as well...but first see if you can enter the BIOS (set-up) by using the appropriate key during boot......F2, Del, whatever it is for that modle of laptop. The system should show something, whether the hard drive is bad or not. If it doesn't I would look at trying a different monitor.

connect the external monitor...boot the computer and then use the Fn (Function) key and the monitor logo key. to switch it.

Change Is Good

tried a different monitor and nothing...
nothing when trying to get into BIOS either.
There are no start up beeps or anything, the CD ROM "works"
when you insert a cd, but the screen is blank, nothing at all from
the screen or the HDD light....

OMG don't judge me!
