When I start up notepad opens with this message. "[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787.)
Can anyone tell me how to stop this happening? If another user logs on this does not happen. I do a bit of tweaking so its obviously something I did myself. I know I enabled unknown files to open with notepad somewhere along the line but I dont know when, where, or how I did it. Can I stop this happening with regedit??

The only reason I've ever heard of this happening (in only one profile as you describe) is due to the desktop.ini files.
The fix is to delete ALL of them that reside in your profile, and from the default profile.

Well first, you're going to have to show hidden files. Desktop.ini is hidden. I'd first make sure you don't have it in the startup folder. If you do, remove it, reboot and see if it still opens.
If that didn't work, you're going to have to delete all of them.
Once the hidden files are shown, you should just be able to search for desktop.ini using the standards Windows search. Then just delete them straight from there. Of course, don't remove them from the recycle bin until you're sure that deleting them didn't cause any further complications.

Eddie: You're welcome. Glad I could help.
Bmeek: They have something to do with the individual per-folder settings for XP. Yes, there will more than likely be a bunch of them on your computer. And they are okay. They should be there...until they start causing problems. =)
Jimbob: Thank you Sir! I've stumbled across some of your posts too, and you're not doing so bad yourself. ;) Your posts always seem to help from what I can tell.-=Bryan=-
