Maybe I way off base here, but I know I read that Windows updates some text files regardless how in which directories they are.
Maybe its just for Word docs and such, and doesn't include Notepad text files? Or maybe there's some synchronization feature we need to set up or plug in? And maybe only certain directories perfom the updating of all files of the same name (i.e.; shared folders and "My Documents" folder?

If you are talking about creating a log file that will list the date and time you open the file...No you are not way off. You can create a Log file with notepad by creating a file of any name and placing in the first line ".LOG". Save the file and close it. Then when you open it again it will list the new date and time. you can add notes after you have saved and reopened it. If this is not it give more details please.
