not using space on cd-r's?

hi. i burn music to cd-r's to listen to in my car. the cd says it has 700mb of space, but when using windows media player to burn to it, if i surpass ~120mb it says nothing else will fit. i'm stumped, i pulled out a supposed 4.7gig dvd+r and i encountered the same problem. thanks for your time :]
