My CD Rom and DVD drives are not being recognized by my computer. Its not even being listed on "My computers" anymore. First my computer started with, not recognizing my burner drive. It still recognized the CD rom drive but not the burner drive. When it didn't recognize my burner drive, it seemed like no power was going though because when I pressed the eject button, it wouldnt open. Also no light was blinking upon start up. Then couple of days later, my burner started to work again, and the lights started to blink showing that power was there.
NOW........both my CD ROM and Burner drives are not working. The Cd rom drive blinks on start up but my burner doesn't. Its not being recognized by my computers. Also when I go to device manager, my CD rom and burners are not even listed. THERE isnt even the yellow ! mark.
I was planning on restoring my computer using a boot disk, but the only problem that I will have with that is using the CD rom drive. I don't think my computer will recognize my CD rom drive after it loads from flooy(boot disk) to when it needs to use the CD rom drive for WIndows XP. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this problem???

Have you checked the BIOS to see if they are set to auto on the setup?

I checked the BIO's and primary and secondary IDE drives are set to auto detect. To make sure my IDE cables were not loose, I unplugged all the cables connecting to the CD rom and Burner drives and repluged them back. Its still not working.......
Also I didn't install any new drivers.

Go to MADBOOT.COM and download the XP boot disks [6]. Boot from them and reinstall from the CD. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice.......oh by the way....if I do the boot disk.......will it recognize my cd. My only concern is that, after I do the boot disk, if it will read my cd rom drive to install from the cd.

If it doesn't try resetting the bios. Easiest way is to remove the battery from the mobo for 10 seconds then reset time and date and auto for the drives. Good luck.
