Hi, I am reformatting and reinstalling Windows on my pc. When I attempt to install 98, it runs through all the formatting etc, but when I type in setup.exe it says "Not Ready Reading from Drive E". I know it is not the CD because I have used it just recently on my other PC. I have also used another IDE cable as well, so that is not it. I have also changed the CD drive twice to see if that was the problem. Hoping this is something simple I am missing. Anyone have an ideas? ~shauna

why not just set your bios to boot from cdrom and then do a fresh install of XP? Or is it a specific upgrade disc from 98 to XP?
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

I'll reiterate, it's not necessary to install win98 and then upgrade to XP. Just install XP and have the win98 CD handy to prove prior ownership when asked.
Do yourself a favor BACKUP!
