Not booting up properly

when i start my comp it goes to the windows
xp loading page as usual, but it doesn proceed
to the selecting the user page...it instead
shows an error,which reads:
sorry for the inconvinience, there could be a
problem with a newly installed hardware or
software...this is done so as to protect ur
software or hardware components..
it remains at this page.i havnt installed any
new hardware or software
pls help!!

can you get into safe mode at all?
If you can get in there, maybe try a system restore to a time when it was fine
