Okay. I just installed an MSI 865PE Neo2 motherboard and 1.7 GHz Intel Celeron CPU. Everything starts up fine or so it seems. I can hear the Hard Drive run but I'm not getting any display whatsoever. My Hard drive is not yet partitioned (could that be why?) my video card works on other machines so I don't think it is that either. I have gone through the mo bo's installation guide several times and rechecked. All clear. Any ideas? The only thing I can think of is the HD not being partitioned could that be why I'm not even getting to POST?

I assume your video card is AGP. I have run into this before where I had to start with a PCI card to get a display to the BIOS so I could change the BIOS setting to AGP.

I thought it might be that too. But I tried using 2 different working PCI Video cards and that hasn't helped either. I should also add that this is the second motherboard I have tried the first being an ECS mobo.

That pretty much leaves 2 problems. The monitor or the power supply. Even if the HD isn't partioned you should get a post to allow some media to format and partition it. Stupid question, but are you sure the monitor is plugged in?

A lot of times this is caused by an incorrect jumper setting as well as the motherboard grounding itselft out. Make sure you don't have any metal standoffs touching the MoBo where they should not be and that the MoBo is also not making contact with the case.

Your computer will start even without a harddrive installed. You should be able to boot to a 98 startup disk or to a xp cd in the cd drive even without a harddrive installed. Are you hearing only one beep when you turn the computer on or more than one beep or no beep? What is your computer doing when you start it?

Does the mobo have vocal POST reporting? If so, switch on ya speakers, often you get a post report vocally even if you dont see one.

Look at your memory and make sure it is compatible with your motherboard. There may be an issue with the type of RAM you have so check out what sort of RAM your board takes (does it accept registered, ECC etc etc....)

Actually, I can't get any beeps cuz my internal speakers aren't hooked up and I can't hook it up either.

And since when are there Ram types? I only knew about DDR/SDRAM. Boy I'm not down with the times.... Anyways, I'll check it out and get back to ya. Thanx

Well, that could be a problem. the ram I have is 128 not 256 like I paid for. I also think this mobo needs at least 256 to operate so I will go back to the comp store and kick some serious butt! Thanks everyone.

Amanda,

Before you go stating the MoBo needs so much memory to work I would get some sleep. Motherboards don't require a certain amount of memory to work properly. What is the problem I am not sure but I would cool your jets.

I might be wrong but maybe she needs to find exactly how her OS sockets should be switched. (e.g. off, on, on, on, off, on)

Amanda if u have your newly installed motherboard manual look for socket configuration and switch them according to the manual. this is all I could think of that might be causing her not having any output on display.

I believe that this mobo will not support a celeron at less than 2ghz. Need a Northwood not a Willamette.
