I am unable to uninstall norton anti-virus from my pc. I think norton has been corrupted.I am running xp and everytime I try to remove the program I get the message C:/PROGRA~\symantec\s32evnt1.dll. How do I remove this program, and can anyone direct me to any free registry cleaner and virus removal programs. Thank you in advance for your support.

Well Symantec does have an automatic removal tool but what version of NAV are you running? Need to know that before I can point ya in the right direction.

Though I walk through the valley of Microsoft, I shall fear no OS for skills are with me

I would guess that about 50% or more questions on this and other forums relate to virus problems.
Instead of removing norton I would find a way to get it back working.

Norton has programs on their web site that are to be used to remove various things left after the invasion of your computer by their products.

I have found that even after running them, they may or may not do the job but will still leave many many unused entries in your registry.

In my case, SystemWorks Pro 2004 would not install in my computer and caused numerouos crashes. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times and finally returned it for a refund per their refund policy. They paid.

After running all of their additional removal programs, I still found and manually removed several hundred registry entries.

Now, no more Symantec products on my computer after 18 years of using them.

Just an observation....it's really amazing, the number of (practically daily) posts regarding problems associated with Norton.
Just about every single day...

Just wondering; what is the problem with it?
I've never used it, so I can't speak for or against it. Is it too bloated, like many folks say it is? I'm curious as to why it appears so problematic for many, many people.

I also tried to remove NSworks and no way. Not in safe mode either. Ther is no total uninstaller for Norton. This behaviour of kidnapping your OS is not fair from Symantec... they should be reading this.
NSW is fine, the utilities are useful since these are more trustworthy tha other 1000 small programs promising to the same or better...but without being so stable and testproofed as Symantec. I wanted to uninstall it because I found a better antivirus, on-line, www.bullguard.com. So, I wanted to uninstall NSW and install Bullguard, then, reinstall NSW but without the Norton antivirus. No way... hopefully someone may help advising how to do this.
