To disable norton protection on your recycle bin: Right click on recycle bin, scroll to properties, click on norton protection tab and remove check mark from enable protection in the drive settings box.

That's not what I mean. I check it to be protected and then when I right click to empty norton protected files the button to do so is greyed out.Does it not have that option anymore? Is it a remnant from norton 2003 in the registry?

I misunderstood your original message. I thought you wanted a standard recycle bin. I am using Norton System Works Pro and if I have protection on the switch is not greyed out on my system.
