Comment:

I am trying to uninstall/reinstall Norton Internet Security/NAV 2003 for XP and I get this message "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this instillation." I have gone to Symantec and tried all of their steps; nothing works. Any last gasp ideas? Thanks, Josh

Josh..
sniff around for a program called Norton Remover.....seen it on the net but sorry...can't remember where.
I haven't tried the program myself... have only just noticed it around.
I had the same thing trying to reinstall norton once.....drove me nuts so I dropped it like a hot scone. Seems it can be the source of much evil.
Deal is the reg entries are flung far and wide....plenty of em too.

Well I found Norton Remover (for some reason all the sites were in Spanish, but whatever), and ran it. Still can't install it. Maybe it's hot scone time for me too, since I am far too dumb to mess with the registry. Thanks anyway...

Uninstall norton and go to the symantec web page and get NAV removal tool. Run it and then reinstall. Also run a good registry cleaner after the uninstall. Rgds.

If anyone is curious, I figured out what went wrong...Windows Installer was disabled in the registry. How this happened, I don't know, but I fixed it and everything is kosher now. Thanks for all your suggestions.
