Comment: I am wandering if anyone here have used Norton Ghost! I got few questions: Can the image be put on a backup DVD and if can, can the image be retrieve when the system is infected by virus and result in cannot reach windows and stay at DOS mode? Regards

Reply: (edit)The backup image is just a file, so yes you can burn it onto a DVD and use it from there. If your asking if you can BOOT from said DVD and install it - I don't think that's possible. AMD Athlon XP 1.8GHz

Reply: (edit)I do not use ghost but usuually these image programs supply somekind of alternate boot system. If not, then it really isn't worth
much is it... It's a lot like XP system restore... if the system is so screwed up that you can't get back in, even through safe mode, then what good is it. I use SAVEPART. It's DOS driven and doesn't rely on XP in any way. I boot up with DOS and re-install the image with just a few keystrokes. The image can be located on a different partition or on CD/DVD Just an opinion.

How to create Bootable Ghost CD/DVDs Also, be aware that Norton Ghost 9 is not not really Ghost. It's actually Drive Image, a similar imaging/cloning product originally developed by PowerQuest, a company Symantec purchased on December 5, 2003. The reason Ghost 9 (Drive Image in disguise) is controversial is because it supports a feature Symantec calls 'Hot Imaging', which allows you to to create images of/from a 'LIVE' operating system, while files are able to change. Reply: (edit)I've been using Drive Image and now Ghost 9 for many years and have never had a problem creating or restoring images using so called 'hot imaging'. The last few releases of DI introduced hot imaging I believe. I've restored many times without any problems whatsoever. I've used every disk imager out there and Drive Image, now Ghost 9.0, is the best hands down. Perhaps the only bad mark against Ghost is that Symantec now stands behind it. At least for now it is not bloated like all their other products. Hope it stays that way.

Reply: (edit)Since you have used for so long can I ask u some comment about this: I saw people boot into dos and the copy all the program to another hard drive using their existing hard drive! What I want is I don't want through HD but through DVD.. Any ideas whether can? Like is DOS mode, the transfer is made from DVD to another HD! Regards
