OS: XP home SP2
CPU/Ram: A54/1024 meg
Product: Compaq Presario
Comment:

The Ghost 9 program window opens then an error window opens. It shows V2iConsole.exe Common Language Runtime Debugging Services with the message "Application has generated an exception that could not be handled". It shows Process ID 2784 Thread iD 2788. The Ghost 9 window then closes.

I have tried reinstalling Ghost 9 and running the Norton Removal Tool after removing Ghost. My system is a Compaq Presario with Windows XP Home SP2 and a 160 gig hard drive.

I had Ghost 9 working a few weeks ago. Then Windows crashed and I had to restore my Windows from the Compaq Recovery partition. I did the non-destructive recovery and all my Program Files were left intact. I ran Ghost 9 from the Start-All Programs menu and it gave me this error. I removed Ghost 9 thru add and remove programs and reinstalled from the CD and it gave me this error. Please help.

1. Windows Add & Remove program should be used only as last resort when there is no uninstaller for Norton Ghost 9.

2. Norton Ghost 9.0 Readme.txt explained what gets deleted and what don't. You will need to probe and edit the registry to remove all references to Norton Ghost. You also will need to manually delete the files that didn't get removed.

3. I had to restore my Windows from the Compaq Recovery partition. I did the non-destructive recovery.

FYI Compaq & HP simply rebranded the standard Windows XP System Restore feature as "non-destructive recovery". Why? Ask Compaq/HP.

After you complete everything as stated in step 2, cold restart the PC and try reinstall Ghost again.

I'm not positive, but can't you boot from the Ghost CD and run it that way?

Version 9? I'm not sure either but I do know this version is controversial. Read THIS and you will know why.

when you boot from the Ghost cd it wants to restore your backup. It does not run the regular ghost program from CD. My DVD drive is broken but I shared my other computer's CD drive over my network. So I was still able to install Ghost 9.

XPUser I will try going into the registry and looking for and deleting Norton entries.
