Hello - I just did a clean install (deleted partition, created new one etc) on a desktop computer and loaded Norton, AVG, Ad-Aware and Regseeker onto it. I have run all the virus programs, updated them and then run them again in both normal and safe mode.
My problem is that I can't keep Norton Auto Protect enabled. It stays on for the duration of the session but as soon as I reboot it come up in the system tray with a red x through it and when I open it up the Auto Protect is disabled again... grrrr...
Can anybody help me?
Many thanks

I don't know what version you're using, but in 2002 you had to click options (or right-click icon and choose 'configure'), and check the box to enable autoprotect on startup. Otherwise it would come up disabled on the next restart.

Woops, yes I forgot to mention version - it's 2003 and I ticked the option to enable auto protect on startup... perhaps it's a conflict with AVG as per suggests... I'll try disabling AVG for curiousity's sake.

Ok, disabled AVG in the registry and msconfig set Norton to enable auto protect and to start auto protect on startup - rebooted - still has a red x through it and has auto protect disabled - reset it again and rebooted again - same result...
grrr, very strange...

hi,
see if these 2 are enabled in services.
control panel>administrative tools>services>event log and system event notification. nortons needs these 2 services running for auto protect to function.i had diasabled them and no autoprotect renabled them autoprotect worked.
keltik

in starup check , all symantec, and norton files are selected, also check other settings in options for internet blocking may be causing conflict, also disable and back on to check time settings, conflict with other software could also by cause,.:)

If you are replacing another version of NAV you sometimes have to uninstall the one you are trying to load and run the uninstall tool from symantec and clean the Norton and symantec files off the machine. Then reinstall.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Finally working - went to control panel, administrative tools - services and auto protect was set at "manual" so I changed it to automatic and AVG was set to automatic so I changed it to manual and it all works now!
Thanks so much for the help everyone, really appreciated.
