Norton Antivirus/McAfee

I've repeatedly tried to use LiveUpdate to get new Virus Definitions to protect against the worm that's releasing Friday, but endlessly get the message "VIrus update failed. Unable to find definitions on this server". SYmantec tech support has NOTHING about this and of course no way to contact them directly.
I'm so disgusted with Norton lately I'm thinkking of switching to McAfee. How do the two compare? THanks

Take one with a syringe and the other with an enema.
It makes no difference which one you choose for which method.
Get yourself a copy of Trend Micro or Panda.

avast.com has an excellent freebie version too; nowhere near as heavy on system resources as Norton/MacAfee etc; easy to use; auto-updates like a dream...

I agree with trvlr. I paid to use McAfee for over 5 years and now use the freebie Avast for the same reasons noted by trvlr.
When and if Avast starts charging for their product then I will buy into it.

Boaster If Norton Live Update does not work for you go to the symantec web site and download the latest updates. On the Norton AV screen click on Help Symantec response centre. Scroll down to Download Virus Definitions Manually. Follow the prompts and run the file from the Symantec Site.
As for Norton Vs Mcaffee I think you would be trading one can of worms for another. You should be OK with Norton as long as you only run Norton AV. Not the rest of the stuff Symantec provides.
Hope this helps.

I tried Norton and McAfee years ago and had probs with both. Been using AVG (freebie) and haven't been infected for five years. Simple to use ...effective. I'm on the net at least 2-3 days per day. Best, Jim
