Can anyone tell me what I could use or how I can go about finding and clearing out ALL REGISTRY entries, files and anything else related to Norton Antivirus without having to do a complete format of my hard drive??!!

Go to symantec and get the NAV REMOVAL TOOL, then run a good registry cleaner like REGSEEKER[free] and/or REGISTRY FIRST AID [$21]. Rgds.

Not exactly...but someone I talked to at Norton when I could not load Norton Security said that, unlike McAfee, Norton put very little in the registry. McAfee is a complete horror show to get out of the registry, and even with their instructions, it doesn't always work completely. But that's neither here nor there. As it turned out I just took out of Add/Remove, reinstalled Norton, and it worked fine.

I assume you're not reinstalling Norton. They sent me an email telling me simply to uninstall from Add/Remove and that would be enough to reinstall.

If you have no other Norton or Symantec products, I would do a search for Norton, and remove all incidences of it. Trouble is, I don't know what else to look for although there may be nothing.

While you're at it, which you've probably done, remove everything Norton from Windows Explorer and Desktop.

Sorry couldn't be more help. But I can't imagine it's worth formatting and reinstalling Windows.

Back up your registy first!

In response to salgolf, NAV does leave behind numerous registry entries. You have to search for NORTON, SYMANTEC in the registry to clean it. I have had to do this. Rgds.

gabep's advice is simpler and a lot shorter. I'd still do a manual search.

I went thru the registry and deleted ALL "NORTON" and "SYMANTEC" entries; however, it's STILL out there some place cause when I try to reinstall, it doesn't come up and ask me for either of the activation keys so I'm sure there's still entries hanging out there SOMEPLACE?? Could they have these entries in the registry under a totally different name?

I did a search for three things chosen at random: liveupdate or with a space, nothing.
virusscan, nothing.
virus - lots of stuff, all having to do with Norton, but check very carefully before deleting to be sure.
There may be other such words from the program, but I have to go eat dinner.

I never have any problem when I want to uninstall norton so I can reinstall and have virus def subscription start at day one. Just clean the registry with RegCleaner and delete the Symantec folder in Program Files.
