So here's the deal. I had Norton sytem works 2002 installed on my computer with xp home OS. The antivirus would always mess up when about mid way through scanning and an error report would come up and ask to be sent to microsoft (I never did send an error report).

Anyhow, I read somewhere that XP has some problems with Norton Software, so I figured I could upgrade to Norton system works 2003. I did, and I get the same issue, with the virus scan closing down about midway and an error report coming up.

Is there any solutions to this, like a patch etc., or should I invest in a new virus software?

Also, may or may not be related, but occasionally my computer will reboot automatically when I am in the middle of something, like watching a movie or surfing the internet. When it is done booting, it says that windows has recovered from a serious error. I sent an error report to microsoft and they said it was some kind of device driver messing up the OS. All my devices so far are installed and run fine... just this random rebooting crap.

Could this be a result of the drivers installed by norton software? Does anyone have any theories.

As far as software goes, if you want a list of what I got that email me with your email address and I will get it to you. Maybe there is some software that I have installed on my computer that is messing the whole thing up.

I look forward to any advice you all can offer.

Thanks.

Sounds like it may be a problem with your XP rather than Norton. Personally, I've run System Works 2002 and 2003 on XP with no problems what so ever. Have you tried an online scan from trendmicro.com or symantec.com to see if maybe a virus has already hit and is corrupting your Norton?

remove systemworks, its a piece of junk, only useful thing is the anti virus code. and for that i would recommend NAV corp version anyways.

Norton SystemWorks messed up my computer once, I would recommend you immediately uninstall and use only the AntiVirus software.

Mark, have simular problem. sent same error to microsoft I have Norton's 2002 and now upgraded to 2003. my eployer hangs with cpu usage at 100% when I use it. sytem doesn't reboot. i did find "the trojan virus' on it with norton's and it fixed it. but still have trouble since then. I had norton on my system for a long time without any trouble. I uninstalled Norton's and upgraded it with 2003 ran it from disk first and it fixed some files and it worked fine for a while until I turned on smart sweep and then my problems started all over again. I also have trouble downloading programs from the net. Just don't know what to do from here.

I had the same problem with the occasional re-booting at random intervals with windows xp and Norton 2002. I just installed 2003 and not I cannot start windows, I cannot start in safe mode, prompt mode or last known workable configuration In short I am screwed. Thank God for laptops. If anyone has a clue as to how I can get into my computer to remove Norton 2003 I would appreciate it. Thanks.

John
