Hi everyone,

I am having a problem with norton antivirus 2003, i have just installed it and after i resarted it told me an unauthorized program has attempted to change symantec settings and that it will revert to the old settings and restart the system....i clicked OK and it didn't do anything, my norton antivirus icon is not in the taskbar, and when i go to the main norton window i see auto-protect is off i try to enable it and nothing happens, and at "email scanning" it says "error" and nothing else...i don't know what to do this same error appears everytime i restart and i have tried scanning for viruses and i didn't find any... please help !

Many Thanks,

CHB

Yes, I understand... alright

1- Do me a favor, forget completely about Norton products, they are ressources hogs.

2- Get yourself a free anti-virus like AVG
www.grisoft.com
3-let me know

Cheers Pal.

Hi ectoplasme,

Yeah i appreciate your advice but they say that norton's the best antivirus available so if i could solve this problem it would be better, but i know they hog lots of resources...anywayz i'm afraid that i might have a bad program or a virus that's doing this, because it's not happening on its own :P ..so any ideas?

coolhotboy,

Go to:

www.trendmicro.com

Run their virus check and see what it says. I would trust them faster than norton/semantics.

All these people having trouble with Norton have to be doing something wrong. I've been using Symantec's products for a decade and never once had a problem.

Hooner : I didn't mean they were bad. I just said they require too many ram/cpu usage for no reason. They are reliable yes, indeed but I prefer keeping my resources for my usage not for Norton.

Understood ectoplasme, with only 128 Meg of RAM, definitely better to avoid Norton products :-)

Me, I had norton on my system and experienced all kinds of slowdowns and program lock ups. In trying to uninstall it i found it hidden in unnamed files and stuck away in places it had no business into. When I finally got it ALL out ...bingo... no more problems. It jsut gave me a very bad taste when I found it in the places i did. Refuse to have anything to do with them since.

coolhotboy2006;
Sysmantec sent me this when I was having problems with my 03NAV:
Uninstall Norton AntiVirus (NAV) using the Rnav2003.exe removal utility:

Rnav2003.exe is a utility that manually uninstalls the program files and registry entries that are installed by NAV. To uninstall NAV, please refer to the link provided below:

Title: 'How to uninstall Norton AntiVirus by using the Rnav2003.exe removal utility'
Document ID: 2001092114452606
> Web URL: http://service1.symantec.com/support/nav.nsf/docid/2001092114452606

I am suggesting that you uninstall both NPF and NAV as they share some components between them. This ensures that you have an error free installation.

Step 3: Uninstall LiveUpdate and LiveReg:

After uninstalling all the Symantec programs, the shared programs are not uninstalled. You have to uninstall them and then please delete all the Symantec folders. In order to do so, please refer to the steps listed below:

a. Uninstall Symantec Subscription Service (LiveReg) and LiveUpdate.

To uninstall LiveReg and LiveUpdate, please follow the steps listed below:

1. Close all programs.
2. Click Start and then click Control Panel. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click on "LiveReg (Symantec Corporation)" and "LiveUpdate (Symantec Corporation)".
4. Click Add/Remove, Change/Remove, Remove or Change (this varies with the operating system). Follow the prompts.
5. Restart the computer.

b. Delete all Symantec files and folders:

To delete all the Symantec folders, please follow the steps listed below:

1. Start Windows Explorer.
2. Navigate to and select the C:\Program Files\Symantec folder. Press Delete, and then click Yes to confirm.
3. Navigate to and select the C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus folder.
4. Press Delete, and then click Yes to confirm.
5. Navigate to and select the C:\Program Files\Norton Personal Firewall.
6. Press Delete, and then click Yes to confirm.
7. Navigate to and select the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared folder.
8. Press Delete, and then click Yes to confirm.
9. Exit Windows Explorer.
