I know this is not a BIG serious problem, but it is a problem. My pc w/ XP Pro does not make the usual startup and shutdown sounds when it starts up and shuts down. I have tried to "preview" the sounds at the Sounds option, and the sounds came out normally, but when it comes to the time when i actually shutdown/startup, the sounds just simply dont come out. i know it is not a problem w/ my speakers, sound card, sound drivers because it also plays other sounds, such as logoff/logon, MP3's, so on. just last week the sounds were coming out of the speakers out right, but none comes out now? help?

I had the same problem recently, too. I solved the problem by using MS Powertoys or Tweak-UI. If you have Powertoys or Tweak-UI, go to "General", and check off (tick) the "Beep on errors" box. Click OK and restart your computer. You should now hear the sounds correctly.
