My PC with Win XP does not make the usual STARTUP and SHUTDOWN Sound.
I checked the sound in Control Panel--Sound/Audio Devices, everything over there was ok.
The sound card also working ok, I still can listen any music from the PC.
I don't know how to fix no startup/shutdown sound ?

I think theres a setting in the Sounds options in Control Panel. See if its selected to Windows Default... if that doesn't work, turn up your hearing aid

KellysKorner:
System Sounds are missing sroll down to Sound
Also from Kelly's, a VBS File to Restore System Default Sounds

Can u actually play the 'Exit Windows' sound file from Control Panel/Sound Audio Devices/Sounds tab ??
You could try browsing to a diff .wav file and see if that works........

Sometimes the sounds at windows start-up and shutdown can't be heard because they get deactivated somehow.
There's an easy way to solve this:
Get Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP, and install TweakUI.After that, open PowerToys. In the main window you'll see a lot of options on the left side. Click on "General".
In the right pane, check (tick) the box that says "Beep on errors".
Click Apply/OK.If that option is not checked, you can't hear the start-up and shutdown sounds.
Then restart your computer and you'll see that your startup and shutdown sounds are back.
Finally, if you can't download or get the Powertoys, do this:
Go to Start/Run and type regedit
Press Enter.
Click on the [+] sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
and then on the [+] next to Control Panel.
Click on the entry called Sound and look at the right pane.
See whether the value for the word "Beeps" is "yes" or "no".
If it says "no", right click on the word "Beeps", click on modify, and set the value to Yes.Exit and reboot Windows.
Good luck.
Juan
