Hi guys,
I am a PC Lan support Tech at a company and recently have had a few users come to me with problems they are experiencing at home with their Windows XP systems. Coincidentally, they are having the same problems. Namely, when they start up their PC (which are brand new in the past month or so), their systems are all of a sudden running slow, and the taskbar, system time and start menu does not appear at all. I am not able to troubleshoot much since they are giving me a description only, but wanted to know if any of you have come across this and know what the cause/solution might be.

I don't know if this is their problem, but My Win 2000 PC got hit with the Blaster virus a while back, and the same symptoms showed up - lost task bar & Start button.

Thanks guys, after some investigation with your help, it does sound to be the Blaster worm. In certain cases, blaster causes the PC to freeze before the taskbar loads up, making it appear that it is missing.
