you need to install an audio driver, for your soundcard. or onboard audio, if onboard download it from the motherboard or computer manufacturers site. if a soundcard download from their site, or if the driver cd that came with it has xp drivers use that.
you didn't specify what model/manufacturer
of computer/motherboard/soundcard you have.

I agree with the last reoponse. I did a clean install of XP on my Windows PC and had a choice of two things to get sound. Install the driver I got on the CD that came with my motherboard or the driver CD I got with my sound card.Even though with other OS it seemed to work XP might be strange.

can you post here what soundcard, or if onboard
sound, what motherboard/computer you have?
(example; gigabyte GA-8SR533 motherboard, or Dell Dimension 2400, or soundblaster pci 512)
then someone could tell you where to download
the software driver for your sound.
