I recently upgraded my HDD and installed XP. I am now unable to get any sound. I do not have a soundcard, i assume there is integrated sound as i had some with my previous HDD. On the icon tray in the bottom right there is no speaker icon. What do i do???

You could find out what motherboard you have or go to the Dell support site. Then get and install the drivers for it. Start at this url; http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?~ck=mn

Go to Dell's website and click on Support. There you can create an account and enter your Service Tag number. You can then obtain all the specs/drivers, etc for your particular computer.

Windows reinstalls do not provide the drivers for the sound. Dell shipped a utility and driver disk with the unit. You can try to get the driver off it or as noted try their website. Any hardware in the system, audio, video, modem and others need to be manually reinstalled from the driver disk. Dell does not automatically install any of them.
