start, programs, accessories, entertainment, volume control. make sure wave and master volume are up. and make sure the volume is up on the player you're using (for instance winamp)
make sure the signal to speakers is plugged in the spkr out or line OUT jack.
start control panel. classic view. sounds and try to preview windows sounds there.
if you're playing from a music cd in one of the cd rom drives make sure an audio cable goes from that drive to the sound card or mother board...
do you have a sound card or is the sound on the mother board or modem etc.?

Make sure the speakers are plugged in correctly, double-click the speaker icon in your task bar and make sure the Mute box is unchecked and the volume is turned up, make sure the volume on your speakers is turned up and if they have a hardware mute switch make sure it isn't on. If everything checks out okay but you still don't have sound, go to Device Manager and see if your sound driver is working properly.

follow kevin..."go to Device Manager and see if your sound driver is working properly." and reinstall driver or get the model off the sound card(if has one) and go to manufacturer website or www.driverguide.com

NO. I bought this system with XP home installed a couple of years ago, and have no CD. I have not used the speakers since I did the factory restore and thats why I dont know what happened. The Device Manager says the device is working properly. The speakers came with the rest of the system - from SYSTEMAX, or Tiger Direct.
