When I listen to music on my media player or even yahoo messenger launch cast everything works perfectly. Sound and everything. No issues at all.

However, when I go to ANY website, with both firefox and IE, I cannot hear any sounds. The video's play fine, the music bars move, but I can't hear anything. Volume is all the way up in properties, nothing is muted, etc.

When I go into my device manager I'm not sure which is my sound card. I have listed under Sound:
- Audio Codecs
- Creative Audio PCI (Es137,ES1373) ( WMD)
- Legacy Audio Drivers
- Legacy Video Capture Decvices
- Media control devices
- Video Codecs

Am I missing a file?

I have the most up to date versions of Java & Flash Player (I uninstalled them this morning and reinstalled just to make sure)

Please help me get my sound on websites back, like I said it's working for media player, just not on any websites (Yahoo video's, you tube, myspace etc.)

Again, this is both with firefox and IE.

I have windows XP (upgraded from 98) I don't have the original XP CD anymore.

From another thread with this same issue I tried to download the standalone flash player that was linked to no resolve.

I did run "dxdiag" and it played me all the sounds with no errors found.

MuteButterfly, Open Internet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab and under Multimedia checkmark "Play sounds in web pages", click Apply/OK.

Tufenuf,

I've actually always had that option UNchecked as it was the only way I have found to not have the web ad's play. I did just put a check mark in it, I restarted my computer just in case, I double checked that it's still checked and it's still not playing sounds on any websites.

Tufenuf,

Just tried the suggestions in line 7 from that post, however it did not work =( I still have no sounds.

I also followed the links in that question from the OP and my results are that I'm able to play sounds from the site: http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/mark... (seems to be using java and not flash) but not http://www.filecabi.net/video/jaile... as the OP from that post was able to.

Just an update:

Tried all of the suggestions from this link:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/...

Which describes my issue to the T, the only issue I had was when manually installing my sound devices and codec's I came across an error saying I'm missing midimap.cfg file. I found on google that I can get this from the CD that came with my computer, however I don't have this CD.

Anyone have this file or know if it will even fix my issue? Could that be my problem?
