Hi, I currently formatted my windows and instead windows XP prof on it. Now there is no sound coming from my speakers. Under "sound and audio devices", it shows "Audio Codec", "Legacy Audio drivers", "Media control devices" , "legacy video capture devices" and "video codecs".
It says that all these devices are at an 'unknown' location and are 'working properly'.
I don't understand the problem. Can someone help me with it? thx!

You need the drivers from Compaq for your Presario, audio, video, chipset (systemboard), probably network adapter and any others that are missing. Most drivers are specific to the system and not part of XP. If they are unknown they are not installed properly no matter what you are seeing. Fully installed hardware has no question marks or exclamation points. When you go to the device manager screen any sections that are open need updated. You need to know the model of your system to pinpoint the required driver. Possibly you received a driver disk and the files needed are on it. Most likely there are no drivers and you need to manually install everything to clear all unknowns.
