no sound from speakers on line in

I hooked up my stereo to my PC (via 1/8" stereo plug to 2 phono plug) but I get no sound from my desktop speakers when the cassette is played. I made sure all volumes are not muted. Would I have the wrong cable or is this a software issue?

Jenn, The Phone plugs on the back of your stereo, are you sure it is an attatchment connection? and not an aux connection to allow you to connect a turntable or something similar? if this is the case, just go to radio shack or tandy and get a lead with two headphone jacks (one at each end) and conect one to the line in and the other to the headphone socket on your stereo!
hope this helps!

Thanks Matt. You were right about the aux. connection. I just got the cable that attaches from my walkman to my PC and this way I don't have to move my stereo everytime. It's not CD quality but it'll do, especially since I'm new to this stuff and it'll take me a while to figure out cool edit and other recording software
