go to your mixer controls and see if you have a button that mutes your headphones. also look in your control panel under the audio settings and see if you can unmute your headphones from their. if that doesnt work than try another set of headphones to see if they are broken and if that doesnt work than mabye the hole that you stick your headphones into your computer is broke. Im not that smart just making suggestions. God Bless You.

Chances are you have a digital sound card and digital speakers..

With digital output set you cannot use analog headphones.. to change it go to start, run and type in sndvol32 When that comes up click on the advanced button on the main play control.. you can take the click out of digital output and they should work..

If you dont have an advanced button click on options and click on advanced options..

That should help you out!!

If you are plugging your headphones into the headphone jack of a cd-rom drive and you hear no sound, it may be because your cd-rom is set up for digital playback. To change it, click on My Computer. Right clck on CD drive. Click on Properties, select Hardware tab. Select your CD rom drive, click on Properties. Click on the Properties tab and uncheck "Enable digital audio for this CD_ROM device".

Your problem lies in the sound card. Do you use AC 97 sound or some other type of integrated sound. By integrated I mean integrated sound on the motherboard. Beadphone wont work because they need to be amplified. The sound on your mother board isnt amplified, usually speakers do the job!

I have the same issue that I do not receive audio from 2 CD drives that worked fine before I installed XP. I have tried all the recommendations stated and still have no output to headphone jacks.
Go figure.

I guess someone has worked this out already. But if you are referring to the Headphone Jack on the front of the CD Rom Drive, you can get it to work by holding down the "Shift" Key while inserting the CD to stop "Auto-run", then press the "Play" button on the CD Rom Drive.
