Dell Optiplex GX 260
audio device: SoundMAX Integrated Audio

Here's the problem, I have no sound. I go into device manager and all the devices are installed and working correctly. When I go to control panel > volume and audio devices the SoundMAX shows up under the hardware list as working fine but on the audio tab everything is grayed out.

Try and play an audio file and I receive the error:

"No audio device detected or installed."

Hard diagnostics showed no error and the audio diagnostics played sound no problem (bootable cd).

Installed latest drivers > nothing
Installed older drivers > nothing

I couldn't find anything in the registry.

Replaced the motherboard yesterday and tried everything over again and still no sound.

I figure this has to be OS related but coudln't find anything on the M$ knowledge base than the same things I've already tried.

SP2 has issues with mapping IRQ to audio devices but we haven't upgraded to SP2 yet so this isn't an issue.

I'm all out of ideas and any help is appreciated. Thanks!

One more thing : Use the same old motherboard and try to hook up sound card on a different PCI slot.

Progressing Slowly but pretty effective

I understand it's onboard audio. Check the bios and be sure it is enabled.
