Comment:

I just formated my computer, and now my sound card won't work. I have tried installing and uninstalling the drivers many times. I have tried several different versions from several locations. No matter what i do i still have that question mark next to my soundcard in the device manager and still no sound.

i have a k7s5a mb with an athlon xp 1800+ chip. I am running windows xp pro. I tried the drivers off of ecsusa.com as well as those off of download.sis.com . In the device managaer, before the format, i believe the device was labeled "sis7012", since the format it is labeled "c-media ac97 audio device"

what should i do next? Thanks for any help

Quickest way to resolve this is one of two ways. Either go to the motherboards web site and pull up the specs on your board. Make sure you have the correct model numbers including the board version.
OR
Get a system scanner like Everest to take a look at your chips.
You could be running SiS north and south bridge chip set while running a c-media sound chip.
Tip> You can get the sound chip drivers from C-Media.

I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid...

i ran everest to find out the details. It says i have an SiS 7012 audio on an ecs k7s5a with an SiS 735 chipset. The driver that everest directed me to download i have already tried to no avail. I am so confused, why can i not just install a driver? Why won't windows just automatically do it for me anyways??? Please somebody help me solve my probelm!
