I recently tried to uninstall IE and my laptop would not work and I had to do a clean install. The clean install worked fine, however I have no sound whatsover. No system sounds, no cd sounds. I have checked everything I can think of but there are no errors next to the sound card. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

open volume control and make sure your audio is not muted. When you indicated there are no errors next to the sound card, are you referring to the line displaying sound, video and game controller listed in device manager?, you should have a +box to the left of that line, indicating you do not have a device driver problem, associated with any of those devices.

I'll join this ride because I have a similar problem. On my Pentium III 500 MHz Gateway computer I have the old Windows 98 2nd ed installed. When I installed Windows XP on a second partition of the harddisk I have the same problem with my Creative Soundblaster card. All diagnostics say that the card works and when I play something it visually appears to be playing . All mutes are deselected. I installed fresh driver, etc, etc. HELP!

Hello, if I uninstall the driver, how is it going to find it when I reboot? Do I need the installation disc when i reboot? Sorry, I am a novice at this! Thanks.

1) If the driver is still exists XP will find it and use it. 2) Yes, if the driver no longer exists it'll need the CD to reinstall it.
