no sond after installing xp home

i just installed xp home on a new computer. there is no sound from my headphones. i went into all programs>accessories>entertainment>volume control and got a message saying "no active mixer devices available. go into priners and other hardware and add hardware". when i went through the install hardware wizard the message said all hardware had been installed.

check the device manager for unknown hardware or any red or yellow ! or X
Windows XP on install usually does not install sound card drivers. They must be installed seperately
You can find the drivers on the driver Cd that came with the computer or look on the manufacturer's website for the correct driver.

Check that you havent disconnected front panel audio header connecter (inside) as these usually have a passthrough to ouptut sond to back panel audio jacks
