When i right click on a folder and click properties i should be able to view a security tab but i am not able to do so. I can only see a sharing tab but no security tab. I want to reset some permissions for a folder but if i cant access the security tab i won't be able to to this.
Here is the weird part. I am using an NTFS Drive, i have simple file sharing disabled, and my account has administrative privliges, yet i am still unable to view a security tab. But if i log on under the administrator account i am able to see the security tab. I want to be able to see the security tab when im logged on under my usual account name (which also has admin privliges).
I've tried removing and re-adding administrative privliges to my account and still am having no luck. I also created a whole new account with administrative privliges and it is unable to view the security tab. The only account able to view the security tab is the Administrator account. Why is this and how can i fix it? Its really starting to bug me. Thanks for your help in advance!

To reveal the 'security' tab, open Windows Explorer, and choose 'Folder Options' from the 'Tools' menu. On the 'View' tab, scroll to the bottom of the 'Advanced Settings' and uncheck the box next to "Use Simple File Sharing." Click OK to apply the change, and you should now have a 'security' tab when viewing the properties of a file or folder on an NTFS volume.

tsk tsk tsk, Per :-)

4 possible solutions ... no. 2 is out of the equation (i trust you :-).
1. Go to Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Local Security Policy and enable the policy for Network Access: Sharing And Security Model For Local Accounts.
2. Open My Computer or Windows Explorer, click Tools|Folder Options, click the View tab, and clear the checkbox for Use Simple File Sharing.
3. Open the Computer Management Console, expand Services And Applications, and click the Services node. Right-click the Workstation service and select Start. Double-click the Workstation service and set the Startup Type to Automatic.
4. Open Control Panel and double-click Network Connections. Right-click the Local Area Connection and select Properties. Mark the checkbox for File And Printer Sharing For Microsoft Networks and click OK.

Hey guys, found the solution. Apparently there is a way to hide the security tab when simple file sharing is disabled, and somehow it happened to my computer. Heres the solution to unhide the security tab if its hidden with simple file sharing turned off:
1. click Start, click run, and type regedit. Click OK.
2. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies/Explorer.
3.Double click NeSecurityTab and change the value for NoSecurityTab to 0.
4. Click OK.
5. Close the Registry Editor.
