In the registry if you click on Edit there is no Permissions choice. I tried going in using regedit.exe and regedt32.exe. I am logged in as admin but that shouldn't matter. Its XP Pro SP1.

Hi Jeff J,

If RegEdit is damaged, you can install TweakUI which has a repair function for RegEdit.
XP PowerToys TweakUI (Microsoft)

The properties for regedit.exe on my machine are:
size = 134,144
size on disc = 139,264
File version = 5.1.2600.1106

If it is more upto date than yours and you want me to send you a copy of it, send me your Email address.

Thanks for the replies but this is at my work where the problem is and they are very strict on what apps are on the machine. The size of regedit and version are the exact same as Davy also. I was thinking about reapplying the service pack and see what that does. Thanks.

Your answer made me read your question again, and it seems I overlooked something:

if both Regedit & Regedt32 show this behaviour, and you're in a business-environment, then this may very well be part of a Group Policy that's in place to prohibit certain alterations to the Registry.

The Service Pack will not overwrite those settings on reinstalling it.

I wish it was that simple SVG. No other machine on the network has this issue. Their is no group policy setup to do this. I am 100% sure its not cause of a group or local policy.
