No Internet with new Linksys Cable Modem

I am running Windows XP Pro and have been for 2 uninterupted months. 3 weeks ago I bought a Linksys BEFCMU10 EtherFast Cable Modem to replace one I have been leasing for 2 years through my ISP, AT@T. When I installed the driver, it said it didnt support win xp but I installed it anyway. (I heard that it is ok to do that)But ever since I switched modems (3 weeks) Every 2 days I have to run a power cycle. (I have to disconnect my modem's power and ethernet adapter and reconnect them, this clears my modem's settings and restarts them) I have called my ISP (AT&T) and Linksys technical support and everyone is clueless about what the problem could be, besides it being the modem itself. I have been reading about the driver compatibility probs between Linksys and Win XP, Linksys has issued out new drivers for some of it's products so win XP will work but I havent read anything about my new modem and new drivers for it. Can anyone help! What do you think the prob is? Is it compatability or what? help?

Did you call your ISP and give them the new MAC address from the back of the cable modem. If your ISP local Hub is still trying to service your old Mac address it will do what you have stated. It should be an 11 or 12 digit number.

Try re-configuring your cable modem. Start|My network places|click view network connections|Rt.click your cable internet connection|choose properties|click TCP/IP. see the configuration. See if you have a checked -automatically detect settings. Do not change parameters unless you obtain all parameters from your ISP- that is if you wan't to set them manually.

Yes, I have called my ISP and gave them my new MAC address. I have made sure of it. My ISP even sent someone here to fix my prob, but they couldn't. I can't find anything saying "Obtain DNS automatically" it is not below the where I have "automatically detect settings" checked. I don't have any problems with the TCP/IP. Since my original message the problem has gotten worse. Now everytime my computer is shut down (not restarted) I have to unplug my cable modem and replug it to reset the settings (a power cycle)because if I do not do this before the computer starts I will have no internet! It is a pain in the butt I dont know what to do.
