Hi does anyone know the answer to this question. Following the failure of my wireless router I am now connecting my PC directly to the cable modem via the LAN port.However when I boot up The PC although it connects to the modem ok and the Windows connection status box shows all the IP addresses present including DNS servers I have to wait exactly 5 minutes from the "lease obtained time" shown before I can either access my Email account using Outlook Express, or connect to internet using the web browser (IE7).This never occurred previously when connecting via the wireless router. The PC is running XP SP3.I have tried disabling Firewall (Norton360) but this makes no difference.

It might have something to do with your modem. Can you configure it? And what model is it?

Modem is Mediatrix 1102.No user configuration allowed was supplied preconfigured by the local Network company.

Have you tried to contact the company? They might know something. Don't have them to meet up, they might charge money for that, but let them check if it has something to do with that specific modem.
