We had internet access fine using Windows ME. After installing Windows XP Home upgrade, we were no longer able to access the internet (Outlook e-mail, the web, etc.); however, this PC can still be seen and accessed via the network. We have a Belkin wireless router, but not used as a wireless one at the moment. Zone alarm Pro is on the other machine. The machine with no internet access currently has no firewall or virus protection (but will as soon as we solve the connection issue). I setup Windows to automatically obtain an IP address and to autodetect the connection settings. I also installed SP1 and SP2 but it didn't help. I ran the network connection wizard. I made sure TCP/IP was installed. I added this machine's IP address to Zone Alarm on the other PC. The ethernet port is working fine -- no conflicts and as I said, I CAN access and use the network. To me, it seems to be some type of XP setup issue but I can't figure it out. The computer is a Pentium IV with 512 megs of RAM, built in ethernet port, and the internet connection is Cable (RoadRunner). If you have any ideas, we would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance. P.S. The router itself sees this PC on the network as well.

exactly what error do you get when you try to access the internet?
Many people have reported misc problems after upgrading from ME to XP. A clean install of XP is the usual suggestion, but somebody may be able to solve your problem.
Turn on the XP firewall before accessing the Internet. You can get a different one later.
After the firewall is enabled, you might try bypasssing the router and connecting directly the cable modem.

I forgot about that test. Good suggestion (bypassing the router). The error trying to access the web is the usual "The Page Cannot be Displayed".

Start-run-type CMD-enter, type ipconfig /release-enter
type ipconfig /renew-enter
may solve the problem.
